Some people have sweet tooths, some are binge eaters and some are healthy eaters but just OVER eaters. Unfortunately for me, I'm all three! So, in class yesterday we talked about the rules of moderation. If you quit a food cold turkey, more likely than not you're going to go back to it and not with a taste or two but a cup or two. Here are some idea's/suggestions/facts we went over in class that motivated me!
- quit with the monday morning diets, if we pitt our will against our body, we'll always lose.
-instead of restricting a certain food or calories right off the bat (monday mornings) start by tracking you calories or keeping a food journal. Tally up the points and do this for a few days. Once you've got a pretty average diet record going, go through it and organize what was eaten into either meals, snacks, or what i like to called 'bored eating' foods. Find out what you can cut without missing. Butter? Cheese? Salt?
-calories=protein, carbs, fats, and alcohol.
--we can live off of these for a long time but your quality of life is going to suck. Vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, they help the body function (SPINACH, broccoli, carrots, oranges, whole grains, etc)
-A calorie is a calorie so for you over eaters out there, its not justified even if its healthy. If you're body only needs 1800 Kcals to maintain your weight and you eat ridiculously healthy but you're eating 2300 kcals of broccoli, you WILL gain weight. MODERATE MODERATE MODERATE
-Your body doesn't ''save'' nutrition just like it doesn't ''save'' exercise. Just because I exercised doesn't mean I get to pig out. Just because I ate well yesterday doesn't mean I get extra treats today. AND just because I ran 15 miles yesterday doesn't mean I get today off.
-The RDA for exercise has been umped because the caloric density of our foods has been umped. 1 hour of planned, moderate to strenuous activity a day. DON'T you dare say you don't have time--My mother is the busiest woman in the entire world and she has time.
-There are chemicals in your hind brain don't speak english. They speak Physical activity and the only way to shut up the hind brain ( its in charge of involuntary actions, like digestion). So go shut it up!
-Physical activity is like scissors, one blade being cardio and one being strength training (resistance training, weights). Its possible to cut a piece of paper with one blade, but its straighter, faster, and more efficient when both are being used.
-----HERES a TRICK so weights and cardio: If you're looking to BULK up, mostly boys i hope, then do weights first, for 40 minutes of your hour then cardio the last twenty. If you're looking to TRIM down, cardio first! but don't forget the weights! Whatever you want most of your effort spent on, do that activity first because you'll be more worn down by the time you switch.
-Not to point fingers, physical activity is physical activity but Running, not jogging but a steady run burns up to 3X more calories than walking and cycling.
OK thats all for today I have to go to my next class. but this is To be continued because I learned A LOT yesterday. Lucky whoever is reading this.
